How to burst the AI bubble: Strike at its roots

Cory Doctorow released his new book, "The Reverse Centaur's Guide to Life After AI," which critically examines the discourse surrounding artificial intelligence. Doctorow, who has previously written "Enshittification: Why Everything Suddenly Got Worse and What To Do About It," stated in an interview with Ars Technica that he finds the constant requests to discuss AI tiresome, leading him to write a book that aims to "sort out the bullshit from the material reality." He introduces the concept of a "reverse centaur" in automation theory, contrasting it with the traditional "centaur" model where a human is augmented by technology. According to Doctorow, a reverse centaur is a human who functions as a "squishy meat appendage for an uncaring machine." He illustrated this concept with the example of an Amazon delivery driver whose actions are constantly monitored by AI cameras, effectively making the driver a peripheral component of the delivery vehicle.
