In 1988, she established the Dollywood Foundation with the primary objective of reducing high school dropout rates in Sevier County. A key component of this effort was the "Buddy Program," which incentivized students to graduate. Under this program, every seventh-grade student was promised $500 upon high school graduation, provided they were paired with a "buddy" who pledged to support their educational journey. This multifaceted approach proved remarkably effective, reportedly reducing dropout rates for participating classes from a concerning 35% to an impressive 6%.
