Honda Ends U.S. Electric Vehicle Sales

Honda has officially discontinued the Honda Prologue, its last remaining electric vehicle model in the United States. This decision, made this week, effectively removes Honda from the U.S. EV market, as the Acura ZDX, another electric model from the company's luxury division, has also been canceled.

The discontinuation of the Prologue marks a significant shift in Honda's electrification strategy for the American market. The Prologue, launched in 2024, was developed in partnership with General Motors and utilized GM's Ultium battery platform. Its withdrawal suggests a reevaluation of Honda's approach to battery-electric vehicles in the U.S., potentially indicating a pivot towards other powertrain technologies or a different timeline for future EV introductions.

Honda has stated that it remains committed to electrification but is reassessing its product lineup and strategy for the U.S. market. The company has previously announced plans for a new generation of dedicated EVs built on its own e:Architecture platform, with the first models expected to arrive in North America in 2026. These future vehicles are anticipated to be larger and more aligned with the brand's global electrification goals, which include a significant increase in the proportion of electric and fuel-cell vehicles sold by 2030.

The absence of an EV offering leaves Honda to rely on its existing lineup of gasoline-powered and hybrid vehicles to meet consumer demand and regulatory requirements in the U.S. The company's future EV plans will be closely watched as it navigates the competitive and rapidly evolving electric vehicle landscape.
