2027 Range Rover Electric Debuts With 80,000 Hand-Raisers

Jaguar Land Rover has officially debuted the 2027 Range Rover Electric, a new battery-electric vehicle (BEV) variant that will be offered alongside its internal combustion engine (ICE) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) counterparts. This marks the first time a fully electric Range Rover will be available directly from the manufacturer, moving away from the previous option of expensive restomod conversions of classic models. The company provided select media, including Ars Technica, with early access, including flights to London and factory visits, to experience the new vehicle. Jaguar Land Rover stated that it has already received 80,000 "hand-raisers" for the Range Rover Electric, indicating substantial consumer interest. Half of these potential customers are from North America, and 70 percent of the hand-raisers are new to the Range Rover brand, with 20 percent of them already owning an electric vehicle. The 2027 Range Rover Electric is positioned with a starting price of $138,000, which is approximately half the cost of a restomodded classic Range Rover, while incorporating modern safety features like airbags, advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), and compliance with current crash protection standards, backed by a manufacturer's warranty. The design of the Range Rover Electric prioritizes maintaining the iconic Range Rover aesthetic, with the electric variant looking virtually identical to its ICE and PHEV siblings. Subtle aerodynamic enhancements include a smoother front grille and more aero-efficient wheels, designed to reduce drag. The most apparent visual distinction is the absence of tailpipes at the rear. The vehicle also features a flat underbody, contributing to its aerodynamic profile. Jaguar Land Rover has been a proponent of electrification, being one of the initial automakers to announce a strategic shift away from combustion engines. While the timeline for this transition has faced challenges due to global events such as the COVID-19 pandemic, supply chain disruptions, and geopolitical factors, the company's commitment to electrification remains evident with the introduction of the Range Rover Electric.
