Apple Unveils iPhone 18 Series and Foldable iPhone Duo

Apple announced its latest smartphone lineup at the 'Surprise and Shine' event, introducing the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and the company's first foldable device, the iPhone Duo. The event also marked the debut of new CEO John Ternu. The new iPhones are powered by a newly engineered A20 Pro chip, which includes advanced CPU and GPU cores and a second Neural Engine, promising enhanced performance. A reimagined Siri, now referred to as Siri AI and rolling out in beta with iOS 27, is a significant software upgrade. This new version of Siri is powered by Apple Intelligence and is designed to be more personal, capable, and conversational, assisting users by understanding personal context across various applications like messages, photos, and emails.

The iPhone 18 Pro starts at $1,199 for the 256GB model, with options for 512GB, 1TB, and a new 2TB storage tier. The iPhone 18 Pro Max begins at $1,299 for the 256GB configuration. Pre-orders for the devices are scheduled to open on Saturday, September 12th, with the official release date set for Friday, September 18th. Both the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max will be available in four new finishes: a deep black, a refined silver, burgundy, and a new blue shade called 'glacier'. These finishes feature color-matched aluminum and back glass for a more unified aesthetic. The battery life on these models has also been improved, with eSIM-only versions offering up to 36 hours of video playback for the iPhone 18 Pro and up to 45 hours for the iPhone 18 Pro Max.

A major hardware advancement is the camera system, which now includes a 48MP Fusion Main camera with variable aperture technology. Apple describes this as its most advanced camera to date, offering enhanced creative control and improved performance in low-light conditions and Night Mode. The Camera app also introduces new Pro controls, providing users with more granular adjustments. The iPhone Duo, Apple's first foldable smartphone, is constructed from titanium and supports the Apple Pencil, along with split-screen multitasking capabilities, indicating a focus on productivity and versatility for this new form factor. The introduction of these devices signals Apple's continued innovation in smartphone technology, addressing both performance and user experience with hardware and software updates.
