Chevy Bolt EV Receives Significant Updates for Final Production Year

Chevrolet has implemented significant updates to the Bolt EV for its final model year of production, marking a substantial improvement over its predecessor. These enhancements aim to boost the vehicle's appeal and competitiveness before its discontinuation. The most notable upgrade is an increase in the vehicle's driving range, with the 2023 Bolt EV now offering an EPA-estimated 259 miles on a single charge, an increase of 10 miles from the previous model year. Similarly, the Bolt EUV (Electric Utility Vehicle) sees its range extended to an EPA-estimated 247 miles, up from 240 miles. This extended range addresses one of the primary concerns for electric vehicle consumers, making the Bolt a more practical option for longer journeys.

Charging capabilities have also seen improvements. While the Bolt EV continues to offer Level 1 charging (120V) and Level 2 charging (240V), the onboard charger has been upgraded to 11.5 kW, allowing for faster AC charging. This means that when connected to a Level 2 charger, the Bolt EV can add approximately 39 miles of range per hour, compared to the previous 38 miles per hour. For DC fast charging, the Bolt EV can still achieve up to 55 miles of range in about 30 minutes at a 100 kW charging station, a capability that remains competitive within its segment. The Bolt EUV offers a slightly slower DC fast charging rate, adding about 50 miles in 30 minutes.

Beyond performance and charging, Chevrolet has also enhanced the interior and technology features of the Bolt EV. The infotainment system now includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard across all trims, simplifying smartphone integration. A new driver-assistance feature, the rear-seat reminder, has been added to alert drivers to check the back seat for children or pets before exiting the vehicle, enhancing safety. The interior design sees minor tweaks, including a revised steering wheel with a new badge and updated seat designs for improved comfort. These interior refinements contribute to a more modern and user-friendly cabin experience.

The 2023 Chevrolet Bolt EV and EUV are available in several trim levels, including the LT and the more premium Premier. Pricing for the Bolt EV starts at an MSRP of $26,500, while the Bolt EUV begins at $27,800, before any federal tax credits or incentives. Chevrolet has emphasized that these updated models are intended to offer exceptional value, making electric vehicle ownership more accessible. The decision to discontinue the Bolt lineup comes as General Motors shifts its focus towards its Ultium battery platform and a broader range of electric vehicles, including larger SUVs and trucks. The final Bolt models are expected to be produced through the end of 2023, with production winding down in the latter half of the year.
