Heat Dome To Impact 200 Million Americans Over July 4th Weekend

A substantial heat dome is projected to blanket the Midwest and East Coast of the United States, impacting approximately 200 million Americans with dangerous temperatures from July 1 to July 5. This weather phenomenon is expected to bring prolonged periods of extreme heat, with some locations forecast to reach triple digits and feel as hot as 110°F.

AccuWeather meteorologist Alex Duffus noted that the setup will result in widespread highs in the 90s accompanied by high humidity across the Mississippi and Ohio valleys throughout the week. Cities such as St. Louis are predicted to experience at least eight consecutive days in the 90s, with temperatures nearing 100°F, a significant deviation from typical upper 80s for this time of year. Chicago is anticipating five straight days in the 90s, with Philadelphia and Raleigh, North Carolina, facing similar conditions.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued advisories regarding the developing dangerous heat wave that will affect most of the central to eastern U.S. through the holiday weekend. Washington, D.C., is expected to experience the most intense heat on Thursday and Friday, with temperatures potentially exceeding 100°F and a heat index nearing 110°F. Even on July 4th, forecasts indicate highs will remain significantly elevated, impacting outdoor celebrations for millions.
