Harvey Weinstein Prosecutors Won’t Seek Fourth Rape Trial
Harvey Weinstein's prosecutors announced on March 11, 2024, that they will not seek a fourth trial against the disgraced Hollywood producer. This decision follows a judge's dismissal of charges related to claims made by actress Jessica Mann. The initial trial in Los Angeles in December 2022 resulted in Weinstein's conviction on two counts of rape and sexual assault, for which he received a 16-year prison sentence. However, an appeals court overturned this conviction in April 2024, leading to a new trial. A subsequent trial in New York in February 2024 ended with a jury acquitting Weinstein of rape and sexual assault charges, though he remains incarcerated due to his California sentence. The Manhattan District Attorney's office stated that the evidence presented in the New York trial was insufficient to secure a conviction, leading to the decision not to pursue further legal action in that jurisdiction.
