El Gouna Film Festival Announces First 10 Titles for Ninth Edition

The El Gouna Film Festival has unveiled the initial slate of 10 films selected for its ninth edition, scheduled to take place from October 15 to October 23 in El Gouna, Egypt. This curated selection showcases a blend of established directorial voices and emerging talents, with films drawn from prestigious international film festivals such as Cannes, Berlin, Sundance, and Karlovy Vary. The announcement highlights the festival's commitment to presenting a diverse and high-caliber cinematic program to its audience.

Among the notable selections is "Evil Does Not Exist," directed by Ryusuke Hamaguchi, a recipient of the Grand Prix at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival. This critically acclaimed Japanese film explores themes of environmentalism and community in a rural Japanese village. Also featured is "The Zone of Interest," directed by Jonathan Glazer, which won the Grand Prix at Cannes in 2023 and explores the domestic life of a Nazi commandant. Pawel Pawlikowski, known for his Oscar-winning "Ida," will present "The Woman," a film that has garnered attention for its artistic merit and narrative depth.

The lineup also includes "The Damned," directed by Roberto Minervini, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival. "A Traveler's Needs," by Al-Ghazi, is another significant inclusion, representing a strong regional voice.
