Google Search Console Adds Social and Video Platform Reporting

Google Search Console Adds Social and Video Platform Reporting

Google Search Console introduced "platform properties" this week, enabling users to monitor how their content from social media and video platforms performs on Google Search. This new feature allows creators and businesses to track which search terms drive traffic to their Instagram, TikTok, X, and YouTube content directly within Search Console.

The platform properties integrate into existing Search Console reports, including the Performance report, Insights report, and Achievements sections. The Performance report will display metrics such as total clicks and impressions, with options to filter and sort data by specific posts and queries. Users can also export this data for analysis in external tools. The Insights report offers a broader view of recent traffic trends, top-performing posts, and discovery methods. The Achievements section helps track growth and milestones, like reaching new click thresholds from Google Search within a 28-day period.

To set up platform properties, users must verify their social or video accounts within their Google Search Console account. This involves navigating to the verification page, selecting "Add property," and choosing one of the four supported platforms: Instagram, TikTok, X, or YouTube. Subsequent on-screen steps guide users through the authorization process to securely connect their accounts.

Google stated that the platform properties feature is rolling out gradually over the next few weeks, meaning it may not be immediately available to all users. This update aims to provide a more comprehensive understanding of how content shared on popular social and video sites is discovered and engaged with through Google Search.
