Georgia is about to have the biggest solar cell factory in US history

Qcells began manufacturing solar cells at its Cartersville, Georgia, facility this week, positioning it to become the largest solar cell factory in U.S. history by the third quarter of 2026. This expansion is part of the company's broader strategy to invest $2.5 billion in U.S. solar manufacturing, aiming to produce 8.4 gigawatts of solar modules annually. The Cartersville plant, which Qcells acquired from Hanwha Q CELLS in 2019, is undergoing a significant expansion to increase its solar cell production capacity. This move is expected to create approximately 1,000 new jobs in Georgia, bolstering the local economy and contributing to the domestic solar supply chain. The company's investment is also supported by incentives from the Inflation Reduction Act, which aims to accelerate the growth of clean energy manufacturing within the United States. Qcells has stated its commitment to establishing a fully integrated solar supply chain in the U.S., from polysilicon to finished modules, reducing reliance on foreign manufacturing.
