Geekbench 7 Adds Video, Audio Tests For Stricter Benchmarking

Primate Labs released Geekbench 7 this week, the newest iteration of its widely used benchmarking software. This update introduces significant enhancements aimed at more rigorously evaluating the performance of modern computing devices, including smartphones, tablets, and computers. A key addition is the inclusion of new video and audio encoding and decoding tests, designed to simulate real-world media processing tasks that are increasingly common on mobile and desktop platforms.

Beyond media processing, Geekbench 7 also features a redesigned multi-core test. This revised test is intended to better reflect how contemporary processors handle complex, parallel workloads. Furthermore, the benchmark now utilizes larger and more computationally intensive datasets for both CPU and GPU evaluations. These changes are intended to provide a more accurate and challenging assessment of hardware capabilities, pushing devices to their limits.

Visually and functionally, Geekbench 7 maintains a similar user interface and operational flow to its predecessor, Geekbench 6. This continuity ensures that users familiar with the previous version can transition smoothly to the new one. Primate Labs indicated that a Pro license will be available for users requiring advanced features or commercial use of the benchmarking tool.
