GBL Releases 'Porco Rosso' T-Shirt Capsule

Studio Ghibli's lifestyle brand, GBL, has released a limited-edition three-piece t-shirt capsule collection inspired by the 1992 film 'Porco Rosso'. The collection, available through Donguri Republic, Studio Ghibli's official merchandise retailer, transforms three iconic scenes from the animated movie into distinct t-shirt designs.

The 'Ambush' t-shirt recreates the Mamma Aiuto Gang's waiting scene. It features a seamless, side-seam-free body construction that allows the illustration to wrap continuously from front to back. The front panel uses rubber ink printing, while the rear employs semi-rubber ink, creating a layered effect for the approaching air pirates. A canvas Mamma Aiuto Gang flag is sewn onto the chest as a tactile detail, and the t-shirt's khaki color is inspired by the air pirate coalition's palette.

The 'Air Pirate Coalition' t-shirt offers a broader view of the same pirate crew. This white t-shirt is adorned with a large, multicolored print depicting the pirate fleet's airships. The design includes detailed renderings of individual crew members and differentiated coloring and markings for each aircraft. Similar to the 'Ambush' tee, it features a canvas Mamma Aiuto flag patch on the chest, visually linking the two pirate-themed shirts.

The third t-shirt, titled 'A Pig That Doesn't Fly Is Just a Pig,' draws inspiration from a memorable quote by the protagonist, Porco Rosso. This design focuses on a scene where Porco calls Gina on the phone. The collection utilizes various construction techniques, including rubber and semi-rubber ink printing, chain stitching, embroidery, and canvas appliqué, to bring the film's scenes to life on the cotton garments.
