Hulu Orders Three Futurama Extended Specials

Hulu has officially greenlit three extended-length episodes of the animated series Futurama, with production currently underway. The announcement was made during the show's panel at San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday. These "XXXL-sized" specials will expand upon the typical episode format.

The first of these extended specials is slated for a Christmas theme and is anticipated to be released in 2027. While specific plot details for the specials remain under wraps, the order signals continued confidence in the series' longevity and appeal following its revival.

Futurama, originally created by Matt Groening, has a long history of renewals and revivals. The series first aired on Fox from 1999 to 2003, before being revived by Comedy Central for four additional seasons from 2008 to 2013. Hulu then revived the show again in 2023 for its eleventh season, which concluded in September 2023. The order for these three specials precedes the expected fourteenth season of the show, indicating a robust pipeline of new content for fans.
