Fourth Death Reported in NYC Legionnaires' Disease Outbreak

US health officials confirmed a fourth fatality linked to a Legionnaires' disease outbreak on Manhattan's Upper East Side, bringing the total number of reported cases to 76. The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene stated that the source of the outbreak, identified as cooling towers in several buildings, has likely been contained. Of the 76 individuals who contracted the illness, 53 have been discharged from hospital care, while 12 are continuing their recovery at home. The outbreak, which began earlier this month, prompted investigations into the city's cooling tower maintenance protocols. Legionnaires' disease is a severe form of pneumonia caused by Legionella bacteria, which can spread through mist from contaminated water systems.
