Santi Cazorla Retires from Football at 41

Santi Cazorla, the former Arsenal midfielder, has officially retired from professional football at the age of 41. The announcement marks the end of a distinguished playing career that spanned over two decades and included spells at several prominent European clubs.
Cazorla began his senior career in Spain with Villarreal in 2003, before moving to Recreativo de Huelva and then returning to Villarreal. His performances in La Liga attracted the attention of Malaga, where he spent one season, and subsequently led to his transfer to English Premier League club Arsenal in August 2012.
During his time at Arsenal, Cazorla became a fan favorite, known for his technical skill, vision, and goal-scoring ability. He made 180 appearances for the club across all competitions, scoring 29 goals. He was a key part of the Arsenal team that won the FA Cup in 2014 and 2015, ending the club's nine-year trophy drought.
After leaving Arsenal in 2018, Cazorla returned to Spain, playing for Villarreal again and later for Al-Sadd in Qatar. His career was notably impacted by a severe Achilles tendon injury in 2016, which required multiple surgeries and threatened to end his career prematurely. Despite these challenges, he made a remarkable comeback to professional football, demonstrating immense resilience and dedication.
Cazorla also represented the Spanish national team, earning 81 caps and scoring 15 goals. He was part of the Spain squad that won the UEFA European Championship in 2008 and 2012. His retirement concludes a career marked by individual brilliance, team success, and a strong spirit in overcoming adversity.
