Google Lets Users Log In With Selfie Video

Google has introduced a new account recovery method that allows users to log in using a selfie video. This feature aims to provide an alternative to traditional password resets or authenticator app recovery when users forget their credentials or lose access to their devices. To utilize this option, users must set up the selfie sign-in feature in advance.

The selfie sign-in functionality is not universally available across all Google account types. Specifically, it cannot be configured for Workspace accounts, child accounts, or any account enrolled in Google's Advanced Protection Program. Users must first verify that their specific account type is supported before proceeding with the setup.

To enable selfie sign-in, users are required to record a video of themselves. Google states that this video data will be stored on its servers. The company has provided disclaimers regarding privacy and data access, assuring users that the recorded video will be encrypted. Google also promises that the video will not be used for any other purposes unless the user explicitly opts in to such usage.
