Ford Recalls 43,000 Mustang Mach-E EVs for Drivetrain Issue

Ford issued a recall for 43,000 Mustang Mach-E electric vehicles this week, citing a potential defect in the rear axle differential. The issue could lead to a "bang" sound and a loss of power, potentially increasing the risk of a crash. The affected vehicles were manufactured between May 27, 2020, and May 30, 2023.

According to a defect report filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the rear axle differential may have been manufactured with a component that could fracture. This fracture could result in a "bang" noise and a loss of motive power. Ford has not yet determined the precise root cause of the component failure.

Dealers will inspect the rear axle differential and replace it if necessary. Owners of affected vehicles will be notified by Ford starting on July 24, 2023. The recall number is 23S45. This voluntary safety recall addresses a critical component failure that could impact the drivability and safety of the popular electric SUV. Ford has not reported any accidents or injuries related to this specific defect as of the recall announcement.
