Ford and Lincoln Recall 741,195 SUVs and Trucks

Ford and Lincoln initiated a recall for 741,195 trucks and SUVs in North America on March 1, 2024, due to a manufacturing defect that could cause the brake pedal bracket to fracture. This fracture may lead to the brake pedal detaching from the vehicle's structure, potentially resulting in an unintended roll-away if the parking brake is not adequately engaged. The affected models include the 2015-2020 Ford F-150, 2017-2020 Ford F-250, F-350, F-450, F-550 Super Duty, 2018-2020 Ford Expedition, 2018-2020 Ford Explorer, 2017-2020 Lincoln Continental, 2018-2020 Lincoln Navigator, and 2018-2020 Lincoln Aviator.

According to Ford's defect information report filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the issue stems from a component supplied by a third-party supplier. The report indicates that the brake pedal bracket may not have been properly heat-treated during manufacturing, compromising its structural integrity. Over time, repeated stress from brake pedal application could cause the bracket to crack or fracture. If the bracket separates from the vehicle, drivers may lose the ability to brake effectively, increasing the risk of a crash. Furthermore, if the parking brake is not fully engaged, the vehicle could roll away, posing a significant safety hazard.

Ford has stated that it is aware of at least 10 warranty claims and 2 reports of accidents potentially related to this issue, though no injuries have been reported as of the recall announcement. Dealers will inspect the brake pedal bracket and replace it with a new one if it shows any signs of fracture or damage. Owners of the affected vehicles will be notified by Ford starting April 22, 2024, and can also check their vehicle's recall status on the NHTSA website or Ford's owner portal. The repair will be performed free of charge by authorized Ford or Lincoln dealerships.
