‘Flow’ Producer Matiss Kaza Boards ‘Insectarium,’ Mexican Stop-Motion Maestro Sofia Carrillo’s Feature Debut

Matīss Kaža, producer and co-writer of the animated feature "Flow," has joined Sofia Carrillo's upcoming stop-motion film "Insectarium" as a producer. Kaža, who previously worked on the Oscar-winning "Flow," will collaborate with Daniela Mujica's Montreal-based Productions Ocho. They join a production team that already includes Mexico's Pimienta Films, known for producing "Roma," and Spain's Inicia. Sofia Carrillo, a Mexican stop-motion artist, is making her feature directorial debut with "Insectarium." Her previous short films, such as "La Muerte de un Gusano" (The Death of a Worm) and "Cerulia," have garnered international acclaim and numerous awards, establishing her as a significant voice in animation. "Insectarium" is anticipated to build upon Carrillo's distinctive visual style and narrative approach, which often explores themes of nature, transformation, and the human condition through intricate stop-motion animation. The film's production is expected to leverage the combined expertise of its international partners, aiming for a global release.
