Dakota Johnson Sells Midcentury Modern LA Home for $5.9 Million

Actress Dakota Johnson sold her Los Angeles midcentury modern home for $5,924,372 this week, just under the $6 million asking price. Johnson purchased the property in January 2016 for $3.55 million. The three-bedroom, three-bathroom residence, built in 1947, was designed by architect Carl Maston and is characterized by its California modernism style, featuring warm woods, poured concrete, and glass walls that blur indoor and outdoor spaces.

Johnson, daughter of actors Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson, renovated the home with design company Pierce and Ward, transforming it into a personal sanctuary. She showcased the renovated space in a 2020 Architectural Digest feature, displaying personal items including a note from her grandmother, Tippi Hedren.

The property was listed by Ruby Fay of Engel & Volkers Beverly Hills. Johnson secured a buyer within days of listing the home, and the sale has now officially closed. The sale represents a significant profit for Johnson, nearly doubling her initial investment after over a decade of ownership.
