Ex-England bowler Plunkett makes pro baseball debut

Liam Plunkett made his professional baseball debut on May 1, 2024, for the Tri-City Dust Devils, a minor league affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels. Plunkett, a former England international cricketer, transitioned to baseball after retiring from cricket in 2022. He signed with the Dust Devils in April 2024, marking a significant career change. The 39-year-old bowler previously represented England in 13 Tests, 71 One Day Internationals, and 20 Twenty20 Internationals, taking 91 wickets in ODIs and 23 in T20Is. His move to professional baseball was facilitated by a scouting initiative aimed at identifying athletes with transferable skills. Plunkett's debut comes after months of intensive training and adaptation to a new sport. The Dust Devils are part of Major League Baseball's High-A West division.
