EU Rejects US Claims ICC Threatens Sovereignty

The European Union (EU) rejected claims made by the Trump administration that the International Criminal Court (ICC) threatens US sovereignty. This response came a day after the US government stated its intention to "systematically disable" the tribunal. Anouar El Anouni, an EU spokesperson, affirmed the EU's "firm support for the international criminal court" on Tuesday. He further stated that "attacks or threats against the court-elected officials, personnel or those cooperating with the court are simply not acceptable." The US government's stance indicates a significant diplomatic disagreement over the jurisdiction and authority of the ICC, which is based in The Hague and aims to prosecute individuals for war crimes, genocide, and crimes against humanity.
