England's Barry to continue with half-time interviews

England assistant coach Anthony Barry will continue to conduct televised half-time interviews during the World Cup. The decision follows an inquiry by FIFA after Barry was interviewed by ITV during England's 6-2 victory over Iran on November 21, 2022. FIFA had initially indicated that such interviews were not permitted under their regulations, which prohibit "any unauthorized advertising or publicity" and "any unauthorized commercial, political or religious statements or gestures." However, following discussions with the English Football Association (FA) and the broadcaster, FIFA has confirmed that Barry's participation is acceptable. The FA stated that they had "clarified the situation" with FIFA, and the governing body has now "confirmed that this is acceptable." Barry, who also works as a first-team coach at Chelsea, has been a part of Gareth Southgate's coaching staff since 2020. The interviews, which began during the 2022 World Cup, offer a unique insight into the team's strategy and adjustments at the break.
