Emirates Introduces New Economy Seat Headrests for Sleep

Emirates announced on Monday the rollout of a new economy seat feature called "U-Dream" Headrests, designed to enhance passenger sleep comfort on long-haul flights. This innovation, developed in partnership with seat supplier Safran, features adjustable side wings that cradle the head, preventing forward or sideways leaning during sleep. The airline claims to be the first globally to introduce this product.

The U-Dream Headrests offer vertical adjustment and tilting capabilities to accommodate various passenger heights and body types. Emirates has already fitted these headrests onto three Airbus A350 aircraft. The airline plans to equip its entire fleet of A350s with this feature by the end of 2026. Furthermore, the 270 Boeing 777X aircraft on order will include the headrests as standard upon delivery.

Retrofitting of existing Airbus A380 and Boeing 777 aircraft with the U-Dream Headrests is scheduled to commence in 2027. Emirates president Sir Tim Clark stated that the "U-Dream changes the game if the person wants to sleep—by supporting the neck in full. No more neck pillows needed." The headrests have received certification from the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and are designed for easy cleaning between flights, according to the airline's press release.
