Driven: 1992 Ferrari 512TR Improves the Testarossa Formula

The 1992 Ferrari 512 TR, an evolution of the iconic Testarossa, was introduced by Ferrari in late 1991. This model addressed key areas for improvement identified in its predecessor, the Testarossa. The 512 TR featured a larger 4.9-liter flat-12 engine, an increase from the Testarossa's 4.9 liters, producing 428 horsepower and 362 lb-ft of torque. This power boost allowed for a top speed of 195 mph and a 0-60 mph acceleration time of approximately 4.6 seconds. Ferrari engineers also revised the engine's intake and exhaust systems, and the gearbox was updated for smoother shifting. Visually, the 512 TR retained the distinctive side strakes but incorporated a more aerodynamic front fascia with larger air intakes and integrated fog lights. The rear also saw updates, including new taillights and a revised bumper. Inside, the cabin received minor enhancements, including improved ergonomics and updated materials. The 512 TR was produced until 1994, with approximately 2,261 units manufactured, making it a sought-after collector's item.
