Donut Lab’s ‘solid-state’ battery exposed as regular li-ion in damning investigation

An investigation by battery researcher Ziroth, supported by over 20 independent battery experts, has concluded that Donut Lab's "solid-state" battery is actually a lithium-ion cell. Donut Lab had raised approximately $25 million from over 1,300 investors based on claims of a revolutionary sodium-ion solid-state chemistry. The investigation traced the battery technology to a German company, CT Coatings, and uncovered a network of firms operating under non-disclosure agreements. Electrochemical evidence, including voltage curves and cell expansion data, conclusively identified the tested cell as lithium-ion, contradicting Donut Lab's promises. The findings suggest that the company's claims of a "miracle" battery were unsubstantiated, potentially misleading its investors.
