Dolly Parton's Imagination Library Expands in London

Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, a philanthropic initiative founded by the late country music icon, is undergoing a significant expansion in London, nearly a month after her passing. The program, established in 1995 as part of the Dollywood Foundation, aims to foster early literacy by providing a free book each month to children under the age of five. Since its inception, the Imagination Library has distributed over 330 million books to more than 3 million children globally. Initially focused on Parton's home community of Sevier County, Tennessee, the program has since broadened its scope to encompass all 50 U.S. states and several international locations, including Canada, Australia, Ireland, and the United Kingdom. The latest expansion targets the U.K., specifically London, where the program's reach will be doubled. Previously, the Imagination Library served only five of London's 32 boroughs. Following this expansion, it will now extend to 10 boroughs, making an additional 157,000 children eligible to receive monthly books. Jeff Conyers, president of the Dollywood Foundation, conveyed that Parton would have been immensely proud of the program's continued growth, even after her death. He stated that Parton's vision was for the Imagination Library to endure for future generations and that she consistently encouraged efforts to reach more children and families. The operational model of the Imagination Library relies on partnerships with local organizations. In London, the new expansion is being sponsored by the Postcode Lottery, a U.K.-based charity lottery. Clara Govier, managing director of the Postcode Lottery, highlighted Parton's understanding of the profound impact of a simple connection between a child, an adult, and a book. The Dollywood Foundation was founded in 1988 with a pro-education mission. The Imagination Library's expansion in London is a testament to Parton's enduring philanthropic legacy, emphasizing her commitment to early childhood development and literacy through accessible resources. The program's success is measured not only by the sheer volume of books distributed but also by its ability to adapt and grow, reaching new communities and impacting more young lives.
