Disney World Unveils 'Monsters, Inc.' Themed Land, Monstropolis, Opening at Hollywood Studios in 2027

Walt Disney World has officially announced the development of Monstropolis, a brand-new themed land inspired by the beloved "Monsters, Inc." film franchise. This immersive expansion is slated to open at Disney's Hollywood Studios in 2027, marking a significant addition to the park's entertainment offerings. The announcement was made by Walt Disney Imagineering, the creative force behind Disney's theme park attractions, during the D23 convention, a premier event for Disney enthusiasts and industry insiders.

The centerpiece of Monstropolis will be Disney's first-ever suspended roller coaster, meticulously engineered to replicate the iconic and thrilling door vault sequence from the "Monsters, Inc." movies. This innovative ride system will suspend guests, allowing them to experience the sensation of soaring through the vault. The coaster's launch mechanism is designed for rapid acceleration, propelling riders up to 40 feet in a mere four seconds. The vehicles themselves are conceptualized to harness both the "laughs" and "scares" that are central to the "Monsters, Inc." narrative, reflecting the film's core premise of energy generation through children's fear and laughter.

Complementing the roller coaster, Monstropolis will feature a new interactive theater experience. This attraction is a testament to Disney's collaborative spirit, developed in partnership with Pixar Animation Studios, the creators of the "Monsters, Inc." universe, and Industrial Light & Magic (ILM). ILM, a renowned visual effects company founded by George Lucas, brings its expertise in cutting-edge digital artistry.
