Delta Ends JFK Service to 3 Cities, Adds Raleigh Route

Delta Air Lines has permanently discontinued three routes from New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) to Houston, Memphis, and St. Louis. These flights were initially suspended on June 7, 2024, with plans to resume in September. However, Delta confirmed on Monday that it has opted to end this service entirely as part of its routine network planning. The airline stated it will contact affected customers to arrange alternative travel options. While these specific JFK routes are ceasing, Delta continues to offer nonstop service to Houston, Memphis, and St. Louis from its nearby hub at LaGuardia Airport (LGA). The decision to end the JFK routes follows a period of surging fuel prices earlier in the year, which prompted the initial hiatus.

In parallel with these discontinuations, Delta is introducing a new nonstop route from Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) in North Carolina, a designated focus city for the airline, to Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW) near Fort Myers. This new service is scheduled to commence on November 21, 2024, just before the busy Thanksgiving travel period. The addition of this route from Raleigh-Durham, one of Delta's fastest-growing focus cities on the East Coast, signifies an expansion of its network in a key market. Focus cities are strategic locations where airlines build a significant presence to feed passengers into their larger hub operations and establish new point-to-point markets.
