Decart’s new world model can simulate hours of photorealistic driving — with some caveats

Decart launched Oasis 3, a real-time world model capable of simulating hours of photorealistic driving environments, on April 24, 2024. This new model is designed to accelerate the testing and validation of autonomous vehicle systems by providing developers with a robust platform accessible via API. Oasis 3 can generate complex urban and rural scenarios, including dynamic weather conditions and diverse traffic patterns, allowing for more comprehensive testing than previously possible. The system leverages advanced generative AI techniques to create highly detailed and realistic simulations, aiming to reduce the need for extensive real-world driving tests. Decart stated that Oasis 3 can simulate up to 10 hours of driving in under 30 minutes, significantly speeding up the development cycle for self-driving technology. The company also highlighted that the model can be customized to specific testing requirements, such as edge cases and rare events, which are critical for ensuring the safety and reliability of autonomous vehicles. However, Decart acknowledged that while the visual fidelity is high, the current iteration has limitations in simulating the full spectrum of sensor noise and unpredictable human behavior, which are ongoing areas of research and development.
