Deadly military plane crash in India’s Assam

An Indian Air Force (IAF) An-32 transport aircraft crashed in Assam on June 8, 2024, during a routine mission. The aircraft was en route from Jorhat to Mechuka in Arunachal Pradesh when it lost contact with air traffic control. Search and rescue operations were immediately launched, and wreckage was later discovered in a heavily forested and mountainous region near the Arunachal Pradesh border. All five crew members on board were confirmed to have perished in the crash. The IAF has initiated a court of inquiry to determine the exact cause of the accident, which is suspected to be weather-related or a technical malfunction. The An-32 is a twin-engine turboprop military transport aircraft that has been in service with the IAF for several decades, known for its ruggedness and ability to operate from short and rough airstrips.
