Daters say AI dependence gives them the ick

A survey of 3,500 Gen Z and Millennial daters in the U.S. conducted by the dating app Hily revealed that reliance on artificial intelligence is a significant turnoff in romantic relationships. The survey, published this week, found that 56% of Millennials and 64% of Gen Z respondents indicated they would not date someone who uses AI regularly. This aversion intensifies with more personal AI applications; over half of Gen Z daters consider AI use for career advice or financial decisions a dealbreaker, compared to 46% and 44% of Millennials, respectively. Using AI to analyze relationship conflicts was rejected by 75% of Gen Z and 70% of Millennials, while using AI as a therapist was a no-go for 69% of Gen Z and 60% of Millennials. Even intimate aspects of relationships are affected, with 62% of Gen Z and 53% of Millennials stating they would not date someone who uses AI to assess the health of their sex life. The sentiment extends to long-term commitments, as 65% of Gen Z would not marry a partner who used AI to help write wedding vows, versus 51% of Millennials. Julie Nguyen, a certified dating coach at Hily, explained to Fast Company that AI dependence feels like interacting with a "filtered, hyper-optimized version" of a person, diminishing authenticity and vulnerability.
