Country diary: A late-night nightingale serenade | Nic Wilson

A group participated in a "Singing With Nightingales" event at the Strawberry Hill Wildlife Trust reserve on an unspecified evening, aiming to experience a nightingale's song. This event is part of research conducted by Exeter University investigating the impact of nature immersion on individuals experiencing chronic pain. The evening began with participants learning and singing a Navajo prayer as a round in a hawthorn clearing, accompanied by the sounds of chiffchaff, blackcap, and garden warbler. Following this, a cuckoo was heard calling across a meadow. The group then proceeded into the 150-hectare reserve, following a narrow track through scrub and young woodland after nightfall, in anticipation of hearing the nightingale's serenade. The "Singing With Nightingales" initiative itself is a program focused on connecting people with nature through sound and immersion.
