Contestants on HGTV Show ‘Battle on the Beach’ Reveal They Were Homeless While Filming the Hit Series: ‘We Kept It to Ourselves’

Steven and Angelina Jacobs, contestants on Season 5 of HGTV's "Battle on the Beach," revealed they were experiencing homelessness while filming the renovation competition in South Carolina. The Connecticut couple, married for 11 years with four children, disclosed their hidden struggle in an interview with The Hour, explaining their decision to keep their living circumstances private from the cameras. During the show, which challenges participants to renovate beachfront properties, the Jacobs alluded to the significance of winning, stating that a $3,000 prize from an early challenge would help change their family's fortunes. Angelina Jacobs stated at the time, "This win is very important because we've been going through our own situation, you know, from sleeping on other people's couches." Her husband added, "This opportunity [is] one in a million. We need to keep this winning momentum going."
