Chrysler Recalls America’s Only Plug-In Hybrid Minivan, Tells Owners To Park Outside
Chrysler issued a recall for its Pacifica Plug-in Hybrid minivans on May 17, 2024, due to a potential fire risk associated with the battery.
The automaker is instructing owners of affected vehicles to park them outdoors and away from structures, and to refrain from charging the battery. This precautionary measure stems from a risk of thermal runaway in the high-voltage battery pack, which could lead to a fire. The recall affects approximately 19,000 vehicles in the United States and an additional 3,000 in Canada, manufactured between 2017 and 2023. Chrysler has not yet provided a specific repair solution but stated it is working with its battery supplier to develop a fix. Owners are advised to contact their local Chrysler dealer for further information and updates regarding the recall process. The company has not disclosed any incidents related to this issue but initiated the recall out of an abundance of caution. This recall impacts the only plug-in hybrid minivan currently available in the American market, potentially affecting consumer confidence in electrified vehicle technology.
