China Urges EU to Keep Auto Markets Open

China's Commerce Minister, Wang Wentao, has formally urged the European Union to maintain open markets for Chinese automakers and to actively avoid implementing protectionist policies. This appeal was made to ensure a "fair, open and non-discriminatory" environment for international trade within the automotive sector. The call comes amid escalating trade tensions and investigations by the EU into Chinese electric vehicle (EV) subsidies, which the EU alleges give Chinese manufacturers an unfair advantage.
