CD Sales Surge 45.7% in H1 2026, Driven by K-Pop Collectibles

Compact disc sales experienced a significant resurgence in the first half of 2026, with 17.5 million units sold, representing a 45.7 percent increase compared to the same period in 2025, according to a mid-year report by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). This surge in unit volume, which saw cash flow grow by 58.6 percent to $171.1 million USD, marks a notable pivot for the format after a 22 percent decline in sales between 2024 and 2025. Furthermore, niche physical media categories, including CD singles, DVDs, cassettes, SACD, and DVD-Audio, also experienced substantial growth, surging by over 100 percent. Overall US recorded music revenues reached $5.97 billion during the first half of 2026, with growth observed across all major categories that outpaced inflation. This robust performance in the music industry underscores a broader trend of consumers seeking tangible goods and collectible items, even in an increasingly digital landscape.
