Carmen Villain Announces New Album Memoria

Ambient dub producer Carmen Villain announced her new album, titled "Memoria," on June 10, 2024. The album is scheduled for release on September 27, 2024, through the label Smalltown Supersound. "Memoria" marks Villain's fourth studio album and follows her 2021 release, "Stuck." The title of the album is inspired by Apichatpong Weerasethakul's 2021 film of the same name.

The forthcoming record features collaborations with several artists, including HAAi, DJ Plead, and P.O.S. The lead single from "Memoria," titled "The Way I Love," was released on June 10, 2024, accompanied by a music video directed by Kristoffer M. Øystein. The album was produced by Carmen Villain and mixed by Lasse Marhaug, known for his work with artists like Sunn O))) and Swans. The mastering was handled by Emilie M. Nielsen.

Villain has described "Memoria" as an exploration of memory, identity, and the passage of time, drawing sonic influences from dub, ambient, and electronic music. The album was recorded over a period of two years, with sessions taking place in Oslo and Berlin. The artwork for "Memoria" was created by Norwegian artist Kim Hiorthøy, who has previously collaborated with artists such as The Thing and Motorpsycho. "Memoria" will be available on vinyl, CD, and digital formats.
