Canada score six but historic win marred by Kone injury

Canada secured a historic 6-0 victory over nine-man Qatar on November 25, 2022, marking their first-ever win in the World Cup finals. The dominant performance was, however, marred by a serious-looking injury to midfielder Ismael Kone, which visibly distressed manager Jesse Marsch. Kone was substituted in the 73rd minute after a collision. Alphonso Davies opened the scoring in the 37th minute, followed by goals from Tajon Buchanan, Jonathan David, and Stephen Eustaquio. The win was Canada's first in the tournament's history, having previously lost all six of their matches in their 1986 debut. Qatar had two players sent off, with Homam Ahmed receiving a yellow card in the 34th minute and a second in the 47th minute, and Karim Boudiaf also being booked in the 47th minute. The match took place at the Khalifa International Stadium.
