Bugatti Transforms Bolide Into Coachbuilt Destrier Hypercar

Bugatti's bespoke Solitaire division has unveiled the Destrier, a unique one-off hypercar that reinterprets the track-focused Bolide into an elegant, road-oriented machine. This transformation involved significant design adjustments to adapt the Bolide's aggressive circuit performance for street legality and a more refined aesthetic. The Destrier retains the formidable 1,578-horsepower quad-turbo W16 engine and the carbon fiber monocoque chassis from the Bolide, ensuring its performance capabilities remain exceptionally high. However, the design team removed the aggressive, high-downforce aerodynamic elements characteristic of a track car, replacing them with a sleeker profile that stands just one meter tall. This shift in focus allowed the designers to emphasize the car's sculptural form, treating the underlying architecture as a piece of art, as noted by Bugatti design chief Frank Heyl. The hypercar features a distinctively low-slung silhouette, with the carbon tub pushed forward to accentuate Bugatti's signature C-shaped metallic line. Instead of large wings and extensive rear aero components, the Destrier sports a subtle flat spoiler and a streamlined body. The front fenders are flared, rising sharply from the beltline, and are complemented by staggered wheel sizes, with 20-inch wheels at the front and 21-inch wheels at the rear. The rear of the car retains the Bolide's quad exhaust pipes, but the track-inspired X-shaped taillights have been replaced with a custom cross-shaped LED pattern. The exterior is finished in a distinctive Sapphire Celeste blue, a shade chosen as a direct tribute to the original color of the Type 57SC Atlantic once owned by fashion designer Ralph Lauren. This color choice deliberately bridges the historical connection between Bugatti's road cars and its racing heritage, echoing the relationship between the historic 57SC street car and the Type 57G racer that achieved success at Le Mans. The interior of the Destrier has also been significantly reconfigured to provide a luxurious experience befitting a coachbuilt road car. The cabin is detailed with premium materials, including leather, nubuck, and advanced 3D-knitted textiles, offering a stark contrast to the more spartan, functional interior of the Bolide. The Destrier is scheduled to make its public debut at the prestigious Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, an event renowned for showcasing exceptional automotive design and heritage. The development of the Destrier highlights Bugatti's Solitaire program, which specializes in creating highly personalized, one-off vehicles for discerning clients, further cementing the brand's position in the ultra-luxury hypercar market.
