Bethesda Teases Fallout 5 Amidst Xbox Layoffs

Bethesda Game Studios has confirmed that Fallout 5 is in early development, signaling a new installment in the popular post-apocalyptic role-playing series. The cuts are impacting various studios, including id Software and Obsidian Entertainment.

Todd Howard, Director and Executive Producer at Bethesda Game Studios, stated in an interview that the studio is currently in the "early stages" of conceptualizing Fallout 5. He emphasized that the game is a long way off, with the studio's immediate focus being on the upcoming Elder Scrolls VI. Howard did not provide a specific release window or further details regarding the game's plot or setting. The layoffs at Xbox, announced by CEO Phil Spencer on January 25, 2024, represent a substantial reduction in workforce for the company.
