Durana Elmi, cofounder of the wellness brand Cymbiotika, has built the company to $150 million in annual revenue, with a stated mission to support women and children in her native Afghanistan. Elmi, who left Afghanistan as an infant, draws inspiration from the conditions women face there, stating that "birds now have more rights than women" in her birth country. This perspective informs her business decisions and philanthropic efforts.

Cymbiotika, known for its "rip-and-sip" supplement packets, has experienced significant growth, selling over 200 million packets and achieving a 400% sales increase in the past three years. The company has remained profitable every year since its founding in 2019. Cymbiotika bootstrapped its operations to reach $150 million in annual revenue before securing its first outside capital, a $25 million seed round late last year. This funding round included over 50 celebrity investors such as The Weeknd, Post Malone, the Jonas Brothers, and Daymond John.

Elmi, along with her husband Shahab Elmi, founded Cymbiotika in 2019. This venture followed four previous companies and four successful exits for the couple. Their motivation for starting a wellness company was not solely financial; they were driven by personal experiences of family members losing battles with health issues. They aimed to create a proactive health legacy for their two daughters. Durana Elmi currently holds the positions of chief creative officer and chief experiential officer at Cymbiotika. The company has also been recognized multiple times on Inc.'s list of fastest-growing companies.
