Ayaneo Konkr Pocket Advance Revives Game Boy Advance Design

Ayaneo has unveiled the Konkr Pocket Advance, a new handheld gaming device that revives the iconic design of the 2001 Game Boy Advance. This device, revealed during an official product-sharing stream by CEO Arthur, operates under Ayaneo's dedicated KONKR sub-label and aims to tap into handheld gaming nostalgia. The Konkr Pocket Advance maintains the horizontal form factor characteristic of the original Game Boy Advance, integrating modern hardware upgrades. Central to the device is a 3.5-inch LCD screen with a resolution of 960 x 640 pixels. This display preserves the original 3:2 aspect ratio and utilizes 4x point-to-point display technology, which Ayaneo states provides crisp integer scaling for classic pixel-art titles, ensuring an authentic retro gaming experience. Unlike its predecessor which used cartridges, the Konkr Pocket Advance runs on an Android-based system, relying on software emulation for game playback. The device integrates with Ayaneo's self-developed AYASpace game management ecosystem, designed to streamline the organization of a user's game library. The physical controls are a blend of retro authenticity and modern functionality. It features a standard D-pad and conductive rubber ABXY buttons, reminiscent of the original. Additionally, it includes oversized L1/R1 bumpers and newly added L2/R2 triggers, which are intended to support more demanding 3D game layouts. For storage, the console is equipped with a dedicated microSD card slot for expanded capacity. Connectivity options include a USB-C port that supports PD fast charging, Wi-Fi 5, and Bluetooth 5.0. Retaining tactile elements from the era, the device also features a classic 3.5mm headphone jack and a physical volume adjustment wheel. The Konkr Pocket Advance measures slightly thicker than the original Game Boy Advance to accommodate its modern components and weighs 224 grams. It will be available in two colorways: Navy Blue, which echoes the original Indigo color, and Coral Orange. The Konkr Pocket Advance is positioned as a device for enthusiasts who appreciate the design and gaming experience of the Game Boy Advance era but desire modern emulation capabilities and features.
