Avelo Airlines Adds Denver, Expands Dallas-Area Airport Service

Avelo Airlines is significantly expanding its operations at McKinney National Airport (DTX), the Dallas area's newest commercial airport, by adding four new routes. These new services are set to commence on December 16 and December 17, with Denver International Airport (DEN) being a newly introduced destination for the airline. The four new routes from DTX include four-times weekly service to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, and also four-times weekly service to Denver International Airport (DEN) on the same days. Additionally, Avelo will offer twice-weekly service to Nashville International Airport (BNA) on Thursdays and Sundays, and twice-weekly service to Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY) on Thursdays and Sundays. Denver represents a new market for Avelo's network.

McKinney National Airport (DTX) is positioned in the northeastern part of the Dallas metropolitan area, approximately 35 miles from the major hubs of Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW), which is a hub for American Airlines, and Dallas Love Field (DAL), a base for Southwest Airlines. DTX has never before hosted regularly scheduled passenger service. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) granted DTX a commercial operating certificate on September 26, a crucial step enabling air carrier operations. Avelo Airlines is scheduled to initiate its inaugural flights from DTX on November 11. These initial routes will connect DTX with Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL), Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW) near Fort Myers, Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) in Las Vegas, Orlando International Airport (MCO), and Tampa International Airport (TPA).

To support its expanded operations at DTX, Avelo Airlines plans to base three Boeing 737-800 aircraft at the airport by December. Each of these aircraft is configured with 186 seats. As of the announcement, no other airlines have declared intentions to operate scheduled passenger flights from McKinney National Airport. The expansion by Avelo Airlines signifies a strategic move to tap into the growing Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area, particularly serving the northeastern quadrant with a new point of access for air travel. The introduction of commercial service at DTX is expected to provide a more convenient option for residents in that region, potentially alleviating some of the congestion at the larger, more established airports in the metroplex.
