Atelier Wen and Massena LAB Launch Tantalum Inflection Shuò Watch

Atelier Wen and Massena LAB have collaborated to introduce the Inflection Shuò, a limited-edition timepiece that merges Eastern design philosophies with Swiss watchmaking expertise. This new watch, set to be unveiled at the upcoming Geneva Watch Days, is named after the Chinese character Shuò (烁), signifying "sparkling" or "radiant." The Inflection Shuò features a distinctive all-curved 40mm case and an integrated bracelet meticulously crafted from 99.9% pure tantalum. Tantalum is a dense, highly corrosion-resistant metal recognized for its deep inky-blue color and the significant challenges it presents during machining and finishing.

The centerpiece of the Inflection Shuò is its solid 18k gold dial base, which showcases intricate hand tremblage engraving performed by specialist Coralie Mercier at GT Cadrans in Lonay, Switzerland. This dial design reimagines the classic "California dial" by incorporating Massena LAB's custom serif Arabic numerals on the upper half, juxtaposed with hand-calligraphed Chinese numerals on the lower half. An outer ring, engraved with a traditional Chinese huiwen pattern, further enhances the dial's intricate detailing. The watch is powered by a customized, self-winding Girard-Perregaux GP03300 caliber, a movement known for its precision and reliability. The caliber's bridges are plated in ruthenium and feature wave-like côtes, while the 5N rose gold rotor is shaped to echo the wind and water motifs frequently seen in historical Chinese paintings. This movement operates at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour (vph) and offers a power reserve of 48 hours, with its intricate workings visible through a sapphire exhibition case back.

The production of the Inflection Shuò is strictly limited to 50 pieces. This limited run is divided into two distinct dial executions. The first consists of 10 pieces featuring an all-white-gold dial, which are exclusively reserved for established clients of Atelier Wen. The remaining 40 pieces combine a white gold base with a rose gold hour sector and are available to the public. The Inflection Shuò is priced at 33,800 Swiss Francs, which approximates to $42,028 USD. Orders for this exclusive timepiece are now open directly through Atelier Wen, with deliveries scheduled to commence in early 2024. This collaboration highlights the growing trend of watch brands seeking to bridge cultural divides and appeal to a global clientele by incorporating diverse design elements and heritage into their creations. The use of tantalum, a material less commonly found in mainstream watchmaking, also positions the Inflection Shuò as a unique offering within the luxury watch market, appealing to collectors who appreciate rarity and technical innovation.
