Artists Reimagine Ultraman for 60th Anniversary Exhibition

NANZUKA is celebrating the 60th anniversary of the iconic Japanese hero Ultraman with a special exhibition titled "SHUWATCH with U" at PARCO MUSEUM TOKYO. The exhibition, which runs through August 3, features new paintings, sculptures, and three-dimensional works that offer fresh interpretations of the beloved character. These pieces are created by a diverse group of artists including Stickymonger, Jean Jullien, Pex Pitakpong, and Roby Dwi Antono. For many of these artists, Ultraman represents a significant influence on their childhood imagination and creative development.

The exhibition pays tribute to the landmark Japanese television series that was originally created in 1966 by Tsuburaya Productions, founded by Eiji Tsuburaya, who is widely recognized as the "God of Tokusatsu." The participating artists view Ultraman not just as a childhood memory but as a foundational element that shaped their creative processes. Roby Dwi Antono stated that his work serves as a "small altar to my childhood memories of Ultraman," seeing the hero as a light that quietly sculpted his imagination. Ryunosuke Okazaki added that the physical gestures learned through childhood play with Ultraman continue to inform his creative process, treating this repetition as a form of continuous prayer rather than simple nostalgia.

In addition to the artistic reinterpretations, "SHUWATCH with U" also offers a curated selection of exclusive merchandise to commemorate the 60th anniversary.
