Artisans de Genève "Val Viola" Submariner Recreates Alpine Lake Hues

Artisans de Genève has unveiled "Val Viola," a bespoke timepiece personalization project for collector Mr. A.N.I., which meticulously recreates the shifting colors of an alpine lake at dusk. This unique commission is based on a client's personal Rolex Submariner, Reference 116610, and draws inspiration from the serene landscapes and stark contrasts found in Val Viola, a secluded valley within the Rhaetian Alps. The primary objective of the "Val Viola" project was to capture the visual essence of water transitioning through turquoise, violet, and green tones as evening light falls. To achieve this, Artisans de Genève employed traditional hand-guilloché techniques. The dial of the watch serves as the focal point, featuring a custom engraving executed by hand with a precise, relief-cut geometric pattern designed to alter in tone and depth with the movement of light across its surface. This intricate dial work is designed to mimic the dynamic play of light on water. To complement the vibrant dial, the exterior of the watch incorporates subtle material contrasts. It is fitted with a brushed grey ceramic bezel insert, selected for its inherent scratch resistance and matte finish. Unlike reflective materials, the ceramic bezel absorbs light, which serves to frame the dial and emphasize the shimmering reflections generated by the guilloché pattern. Adding a layer of thematic depth, a moonphase complication is integrated into the lower portion of the dial through a cleanly cut aperture. This complication utilizes a blue aventurine disc, known for its sparkling quality, which is inset with a luminous mother-of-pearl moon. The aventurine and mother-of-pearl combination is intended to evoke the appearance of the alpine night sky, further enhancing the timepiece's exploration of texture, light, and natural landscape aesthetics. The "Val Viola" Submariner is a strictly private commission, underscoring Artisans de Genève's commitment to "personal challenge" projects, where each customization represents a collaborative dialogue between the client's specific vision and the atelier's artisanal expertise and craftsmanship.
