Ariana Grande's 'petal' Earns Seventh Billboard 200 No. 1

Ariana Grande's latest album, 'petal,' has debuted at the number one position on the Billboard 200 chart, marking her seventh career chart-topper. The album achieved this milestone with 295,000 equivalent album units earned in the United States during the tracking week ending August 6, according to data from Luminate. This debut represents Grande's strongest performance by equivalent album units in the 2020s and her most significant week for pure album sales in over a decade.

Of the 295,000 total units, 168,000 were derived from album sales, making it the second-largest sales week of Grande's career. Only her 2014 album 'My Everything,' which sold 169,000 units, has surpassed this figure. Streaming equivalent album units contributed 126,000 to the total, translating to 128.83 million on-demand official streams. This streaming performance was sufficient to secure the number one spot on the Top Streaming Albums chart. Track equivalent albums accounted for a minimal 1,000 units.

The successful launch of 'petal' was significantly bolstered by a wide array of collectible physical formats. The album was released across more than 10 digital and streaming variants, many of which included bonus content such as live recordings, voice notes, a cappellas, and instrumental tracks. Furthermore, the release featured 10 distinct vinyl variants, including a signed edition, and five CD editions, one of which also offered a signed pressing. Two cassette versions were also made available. The vinyl sales alone were substantial, accounting for 96,000 units, which constitutes Grande's best week for vinyl sales to date and ranks as the fifth-largest vinyl sales week of 2026.

With seven albums reaching the number one spot on the Billboard 200, Ariana Grande now ties with artists like Lady Gaga and Janet Jackson. This places them collectively in fifth place for the most number-one albums among solo female artists in the chart's history, which began its regular publication in 1956. Grande trails only Taylor Swift, who has 15 number-one albums, Barbra Streisand with 11, Madonna with 10, and Beyoncé with eight. 'petal' follows Grande's previous chart-topping albums, including 'eternal sunshine' and 'Positions.'
