Anthony Bourdain and Joel Rose's graphic novel 'Get Jiro' is being adapted into an animated series set to premiere on October 3 on Adult Swim. This project, a collaboration between DC Studios and Warner Bros. Animation, features Brian Tee in the lead role of Jiro, supported by a voice cast including Titus Welliver, Alison Pill, and Justin Kirk. The series is accompanied by a violent first trailer and is set in a near-future Los Angeles where the pursuit of dining experiences has become a lethal endeavor, with patrons resorting to murder for coveted restaurant reservations.

The narrative centers on Jiro, a reclusive sushi chef driven by a quest for revenge. Brian Tee, known for his role in 'Chicago Med,' voices the titular character. The initial trailer immediately establishes the series' dark and violent tone, even depicting Jiro expressing his disdain for soy sauce. The source material originates from Bourdain's own creative vision. The half-hour animated production is developed by Warner Bros. Animation and DC Studios, adapting the New York Times best-selling DC/Vertigo graphic novels co-authored by Bourdain and Joel Rose, with illustrations by Langdon Foss and Alé Garza. The first graphic novel in the series was published in 2012.

The development of the animated series is spearheaded by developers Brian Gatewood and Alessandro Tanaka. Gatewood and Tanaka previously collaborated on the A24 feature film 'Sharper' and produced the NBC series 'Superstore.' Tanaka, Gatewood, Jordan Blum, and Sam Register are serving as executive producers for 'Get Jiro.' The voice cast further includes Titus Welliver, recognized for his role in 'Bosch: Legacy,' Alison Pill, known for 'Scott Pilgrim vs. the World,' and Justin Kirk, who starred in 'Weeds.' Representatives from Adult Swim have expressed significant admiration for Bourdain and Rose's graphic novels, indicating a strong creative alignment for this adaptation. The series will air as part of Adult Swim's Toonami block, scheduled for midnight, with subsequent streaming available on HBO Max the following day.
